New John McEuen CD!
Nitty Gritty Dirt Band multi-instrumentalist and Tacoma parlor guitar wizard John McEuen is celebrating the release of his latest solo CD, Round Trip, on Rural Rhythm records.
On Round Trip, his first live album, McEuen pays homage to his early influences—Doc Watson, Don Reno, Merle Travis, Earl Scruggs, Douglas Dillard and Bill Monroe. McEuen combines all these influences to develop his own unique style, and is helped out by the String Wizards, which includes some of California's best acoustic musicians. The band features McEuen’s son, Jonathan McEuen, on guitar and vocals; plus Phil Salazar (fiddle), Randy Tico (bass), Bryan Savage (sax), Jesse Siebenberg (drums) and Tom Corbett (mandolin).
For the past few years McEuen has been using a custom Tacoma parlor model (very similar to Tacoma's PM28 Parlor guitar) onstage. He's doing occasional solo dates these days, and is spending much of 2006 on the road with the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, which is celebrating its 40th anniversary this year.
